materials: Earthcasting (reinforced concrete with iron oxide cast in molds dug from the earth)

Terroir (2009) is a sculpture by American artist Thomas Sayre. Rising thirty feet from the ground, two graceful forms curve into one another in vertical swoops of earthcast concrete that glow with the iron oxide of the soil with which they were created. Forming an open vessel shape that swells slightly as it rises from an open field, the privately commissioned sculpture acts as a focusing beauty mark to the surrounding field.
