CHURN FLOOR

Tampa, Florida

Terrazzo, 2001

The former art deco Pine State Creamery has been converted to an urban mixed-use complex housing three restaurants, professional offices, and specialty retail and loft apartments. The project contains numerous public art installations, which hearken back to the heritage of this industrial facility and its art deco roots. Churn Floor, located in one of the primary entry towers added to the complex to connect with the surrounding neighborhood, derives its imagery from historic butter churn types which directly speak to the 60-year use of the building.
