WORLD FLOOR

Raleigh, North Carolina

36' diameter
Terrazzo
1999

Made of cementitious terrazzo with colored marble chips, the thirty-six-foot diameter map expresses an unusual projection of the land masses of the earth. The programming of this central gathering place in the former Exploris Children's Museum about the World (now Marbles Kids Museum), revolves around teaching about different perspectives of the world including what is "up" versus "down," how large is North America versus other continents, and how the propagation of culture has something to do with geography.
