Stainless & Mild Steel, Glass, Fused Mylar Film. 2001

This piece of public art came about early in the design process with the artist working closely with a team of architects, structural, and electrical engineers. The Patterns of Life column functions both as a beacon indicating the public entrance to an IMAX Theatre and expression of the mission of Exploris, the adjacent children's museum. Lit from the sun during the day and backlit at night via internal lighting, the images of this column speak of the patterns of the universe, cities, biology, culture, and technology, and how they are all interconnected. The panels of glass are made as a sandwich construction of glass infused with UV resistant mylar film, bolted to an internal, freestanding steel frame.
